I find that writing about my paintings is harder than painting them, and I suspect that I this is a common problem.   But I sometimes feel I should try.

Abstract 1

The names of the earlier paintings on the Abstract 1 page are prefixed eoa, and this is derived from Edge Of Abstraction.   This term evolved during discussion about these paintings within a now defunct internet art group , and at the time I liked it enough to use it as a series title.   Since then I've grown to like it less, and so more recent paintings in this series have more informative titles.  The common ground within these works is that they all start as wholly abstract geometric structures and then the geometry is degraded until I reach some indefineable point at which it seems to me that the painting is finished.

Abstract 2

These works are initially based on some real image, which has been transformed in numerous ways to give the final result.   In this sense they are the opposite of the eoa paintings.

Abstract 3

At a certain point in time I found myself drawn to the works of the abstract expressionist Franz Kline.   And so I did these paintings, which are an attempt to explore some aspects of his work.
